Bush Pigs Waterberg Weekender Venture

Bush Pigs environmental education centre (an autonomous project of WESSA) situated in the Waterberg foothills of Limpopo Province – approx 200km from Johannesburg – has initiated a fund-raising project to help generate much needed additional revenue. For the first time in the organisation's 25 year history, the centre's facilities will be opened over weekends and school holidays for families, groups, clubs, etc. to use on a self-catering and self-guiding basis.

Two of the centre's bush camps (Hedgehog and Baboon) and a guest cottage have been made available for this purpose.

The 2 camps nestled in lovely bushveld settings offer dormitory-style accommodation, communal ablution facilities, outdoor kitchen and dining areas and campfire/braai facilities. Each camp has some non-communal bedrooms and bathrooms (for the select few). Visitors may also pitch their own tents.

Solar energy and gas replace ESKOM for lighting, cooking and water-heating . Camp catering equipment, crockery and utensils are provided, but guests should supply own bedding and towels. For couples and families , a comfortably furnished and well-equipped 2-bedroom guest cottage with swimming pool and many trimmings is available. Tucked away in thick bush atop a small ridge, this is a perfect “get away” venue.

Weekend visitors are welcome to explore the farm's beautiful bushveld surrounds on foot or mountain bike, or venture out to local places of interest. Maps of the farm and surrounding area will be provided and hiking trails and cycle routes have been mapped and marked.

There will be a Bush Pigs representative available to welcome and assist guests , as well as support staff for servicing . The fund-raising project will be co-ordinated by Kim Wilson (project-founder) under a “Friends of Bush Pigs” banner. Inquiries and bookings may be directed via e-mail to kwilson@bushpigsedu.co.za ; or telephonically to 0764555579.
Sandy Beaton (Centre Manager) will also field inquiries (0829262053 ; e-mail:admin@bushpigsedu.co.za ) .
